Welcome to the county of Pöytyä, a fashion land of its own. Fields, woods, rivers, farms and, of course, a baseball stadium. It might look like the middle of nowhere to you, but Pöytyä has everything it takes to make a perfect Myssy.
Pöytyä is our universe, it’s the source of our inspiration and where all interesting things take place. There are so many special characters, interesting places, strange cases - and each and everyone wearing a Myssy hat.
This is one of the oldest counties in Finland and we carry centuries of established farm life and cultural traditions in our heritage. The sempiternal Aura river flowing through the county is one the national landscapes of Finland. As you might notice, we are pretty proud of this all.
If you have time for just one thing in Pöytyä, that is the Aura river valley, one of the first inhabited places in Finland. This is not the best known of Finnish national landscapes, but it might be the oldest of them. The open fields, old farms and the best known river of Finland flowing through the county. You can also experience the river with a canoe or stand up paddling board.
The next Aurajoki SUP, a Myssyfarmi event, takes place June 31st - August 1st 2021.
You can also rent stand up paddle boards from Haverin Kyläyhdistys and take over the river by yourself:
The best way to experience Pöytyä is the Aura river scenic road, one of the very oldest roads in Finland listed as a Build Cultural Heritage site of National Significance by the Finnish Heritage agency. Most of the old estates, mansions and interesting sites such as our headquarters are located near the road that dates back to the early 15th century.
Instruction: turn to “Riihikoski” from highway 9, the section is located app. 500m towards Tampere from Aura center.
Address: Turuntie 1, Pöytyä.
By far the most original site in the county is the statue park designed by outsider artist Kyösti Iitti. The former professional welder and masseuse spent decades building out a uniquely crafted world of metal in the middle of the woods. It is definitely worth the day trip!
The park also holds a 60s design classic: Futuro house.Futuro Pod is a round, prefabricated house designed byMatti Suuronen, of which fewer than 100 were built. While this is not the only Futuro house in the world, it is the one currently at the highest location point.
Instructions: The park is open by appointment only: 040 510 8437
Address: Kaitoomäentie 200, Riihikoski
The privately-owned Varkaanvuori holds the first observatory in Finland built by the local community club, Haverin kyläyhdistys. In the early 90s this observatory also housed a community built telescope that was actively used by local amateur star gazers. Currently the observatory stands alone on the hill and the legend has it that the telescope is still hidden somewhere in the village.
Though we find the observatory inspiring, we don’t recommend visiting this private site without permission. Instead, we suggest that you go to the highest point in Pöytyä, Kärilämäki a few kilometers north, and climb up the tower.

The old estates and mansions of Finland are a few of the most fascinating sites to see. Built to last for generations, the estates are located in various spots throughout the country, and we think the best way to see them all is to participate in the annual Aurajokilaakson Kulttuuriralli event the last weekend of August.
Pihlava estate and it’s birch alley have been nominated as a Build Cultural Heritage site of National Significance by the Finnish Heritage agency. Although this estate is a private home, you can still drive by and admire the installations and outdoor art of Mrs. Turtola in the Pihlavajärventie and Pihlavantie junction.
Address: Pihlavantie, Haveri
From Yläne region the area opens up a completely different, more marine section of Pöytyä. Pyhäjärvi offers fine sandy beaches and the second largest open lakeside in Finland. Professional fishermen still fish on the lake, and it was at Pehku beach where Janne Rauhansuu FIN-24 started his professional windsurfing career. We recommend a visit at Pehkuranta or Kalikka in Pöytyä or Sieravuori watersport center in Eura.
Address: Pehkurannantie, Yläne.
Kurjenrahkan is designated a national park for a reason! Easily reached with a Föli bus from Turku, for a moment you may think you found yourself in Lapland. Back your backpack and explore the tracks!

If the Aura river valley is the Toscana of Finland, this museum is its cultural pearl. The museum is maintained by local volunteers and features statues of plaster drafts by artist Aarre Aaltonen, various exhibitions and the festive atmosphere of 19th century rectory. Open on summer weekend and by request.
Address: Turuntie 1187, Pöytyä.
If there’s something that brings us country people together during summertime, it is our national sport - Finnish baseball. The women of Pöytyä have been fighting to enter the highest league “SuperPesis” for three years in a row. We are pretty sure next year our young and talented team will make it!
Address: Urheilukentäntie, Kumila
