Official Finnish Knitting Championships Sept 20th 2025 – Powered by Myssy The third official Finnish Knitting Championships will be held in Pöytyä on Sat 20th September 2025. The event has sold out two years in a row and established itself as a forum for serious knitters to meet. This year the event is growing and participants will compeat in two categories: Sprint and Elite Class. This competition is all about the speed: Competitors will knit the same product with the same instruction, yarn and needles. The fastest knitter wins, but also quality, attitude and measurements are acknowledged. Knitting is not a competition, it is a Finnish Championships.
The competition fee covers Finnsheep yarn for knitting, all the tools for use and of course every knitter gets to keep their own knitwear after the evaluation. The main sponsor of the event is Fiskars and every knitter gets their own scissors to take home with. Feedback from previous years has been heard, and the rules have been updated accordingly. In the Sprint category thick needles, bulky yarn, and an easy pattern will take about an hour to finnish for the fastest one. In the Elite Class both needles and yarn are thinner, and the best knitters will complete the task in about three hours. The details of the pattern will be revealed on the competition day. The rules are clear and the prizes generous – the winners will receive a grand prize worth €250. A maximum of 200 participants can join. Measurements, density, evenness and finalization of the knit work are evaluated. Our experienced and objective jury will evaluate the work and be more specific with quality points than last year. However, speed is what counts the most. Unlike previous years, the Sprint category now also requires the row count to match, not just the stitch count.
For the first time local entrepreneurs and knitting companies as well as the Myssy Yarn Bar will be located on the the event area. In the separate VIP league we will have visiting stars from our partners and local celebrities that will be published later on.
The competition will be held on Saturday 20th September from 12:00 to 17:00, and registration will begin at 10:30. The knitting pattern may be opened 15 minutes before the start. The venue is Kisariihi (Yläneentie 66, Riihikoski).
Registration takes place at Myssyfarmi web shop: Early Bird price: €44 until June 30, after which the fee is €54.
The participation fee includes competition entry and a competition bag.
A maximum of 200 participants can join, so book your place early. Cancellation policy: 70% refund if cancelled 14 days before, 50% refund if cancelled 7 days before.
