All myssys are handmade of 100% Finnish wool. They are individually crafted by emäntä and isäntä of Myssyfarmi or the local grannies - myssymummot.  The word "myssy" means a beanie in Finnish. The name originates from the shape of the first myssys that looked like a tea cosy - pannumyssy.
Myssyfarmi is an organic farm located in the village of Vistola, the county of Pöytyä, in Southwest Finland. The farm has belonged to the Rauhansuu family since the early 19th century. The old farm scenery and the lifestyle of the generations before us give us the inspiration on what we do. We try to live up to the same values and respect the nature. During the summer season we are busy with farming, but during the winter season - rospuuttokausi - we are passionate about knitting. We believe at myssyfarmi that things are done better when doing them a little bit slower.

Emäntä and Isäntä of Myssyfarmi. Emäntä Anna Rauhansuu, has made her career in the advertising business combining it with the respected role of emäntä. She is a fourth generation member of Pöytyän maatalousnaiset -  the farming ladies. She just can’t help it, knitting runs in her blood. Anna also loves photographing their lifestyle on the farm and sharing it with our myssy-ystävät.
Isäntä Janne Rauhansuu, is also known as mister myssy - herra myssy. He is a former professional windsurfer FIN-24, who spend years touring  the world and achieving among other things European Championship (2001). Today Janne is a proud father and farmer, who loves his fields and the forests just like he loves the wind and the waves. This is a balance that gives him inspiration on his knitting. Since 2006 he has knit close to 800 myssys. More: www.jannerauhansuu.fi.

Myssy was born in the mountains of Davos in 2006. As it seemed impossible to get a cool handmade beanie that a friend Julie possessed, Janne had no choice with Finnish stubbornness, but to make one himself. One day as the weather had set into the mountains, he had finally mastered the first myssy with the help of local grannies. As the myssys started little by little to look like real beanies everyone in the freeride skiing society of Davos wanted one. Julie designed a logo and postcards, and soon myssy and myssy parties became a concept.  Soon he knit where ever he went: mountains, beaches, restaurants, trains, planes... As Janne returned to his family farm, Myssyfarmi was founded in 2008. The very first myssy can still be found in a café in Teufi village, Davos, Switzerland.
